The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has reported encouraging findings from a community-based Ayurveda initiative aimed at improving physical and mental well-being among elderly residents of Faridabad, Haryana.
Conducted under the institute’s Public Health Initiative, the programme screened 5,594 individuals aged 60–80 years over three months and provided Ayurveda-based interventions.
A separate component of the project focused on cognitive health, involving 200 patients who were screened and received Ayurveda-based medicines over four months.
According to the project report, improvements were observed in quality of life, digestive and metabolic strength assessed through the Ayurvedic concept of Agnibala, and bone mineral density.
The researchers also reported positive changes in cognitive assessments, along with changes in selected biomarkers, including serotonin, acetylcholine, DHEA, and vitamin D.
In one component, the overall quality-of-life assessment score increased from 292.0 to 326.3 following the intervention.
The project findings were presented during a workshop held at AIIA on 24 October 2026, and the report was submitted to an expert committee.
The findings provide an opportunity for further research into the potential role of community-based Ayurveda interventions in supporting healthy ageing.
However, the results are preliminary. Larger, rigorously designed studies and continued safety monitoring are needed to establish the effectiveness and safety of these interventions.
