A three-day workshop dedicated to the transcription and editing of ancient Telugu Ayurvedic manuscripts concluded on 28 October 2026 at the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad.
Organised under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), the workshop aimed to strengthen the preservation and systematic documentation of traditional Indian medical knowledge.
Held from 26–28 October, the programme brought together researchers, postgraduate scholars, and experts in manuscriptology to examine historical palm-leaf and paper manuscripts.
Participants received practical training in manuscript deciphering, transliteration, proofreading, editing, and textual analysis.
A significant achievement of the workshop was the transcription, primary proofreading, and editing of 2,040 folios across 30 Telugu Ayurvedic manuscripts.
More than 37 delegates, faculty members, and postgraduate scholars participated in the programme, representing Ayurvedic institutions and research organisations.
The workshop emphasized the importance of preserving India’s traditional medical heritage and making ancient Ayurvedic knowledge more accessible for scholarly investigation.
Such initiatives contribute to the documentation of historical healthcare practices and may support future research into classical Ayurvedic literature.
