The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has launched a national artificial intelligence innovation challenge in collaboration with Techfest, IIT Bombay, and the Ministry of Ayush. The initiative aims to encourage the development of practical and responsible AI solutions for Ayurvedic healthcare, education, and research.

Titled AyushTech Innovate: National Open Ayurveda AI Challenge, the programme will explore how artificial intelligence can support Ayurvedic clinical practice, classical literature retrieval, research, treatment planning, and public health awareness.

The initiative will leverage AyurParam, an open-source Ayurveda-focused large language model developed at IIT Bombay, to encourage innovation in traditional medicine.

The announcement coincided with the sixth Foundation Day of AIIA’s incubation centre, AIIA-iCAINE. The institute also signed two Memoranda of Understanding to strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and industry.

Additionally, an Intellectual Property Rights facility was launched to help Ayurveda researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs better protect their innovations.

According to the Ministry of Ayush, the incubation centre has supported 52 problem statements, mentored more than 100 startup ideas, and provided seed funding of ₹3 lakh each to nine startups.

The national grand finale of the AI challenge is scheduled for 15–18 December 2026 at IIT Bombay.

The initiative reflects growing interest in combining traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with emerging digital technologies while emphasizing safety, transparency, and scientific research.
